Summer 2007 trip news
Lagoon area

On the December 2006 trip the group held a talk about animal welfare on the church premises in an area which is know to us as the Lagoon. We decided this August to see how much information the children had taken in and asked them to do a talk for us.

We sent out the word for all of the local children to come to the church and some were picked up in the tuc tuc. When they had all arrived, the children were sat down and given flash cards and it was explained to them what they were to do.

The children took turns to read out lines such as 'never throw stones', then translated it into Sinhala and explained what was meant. We discussed how the children had changed the way they treated animals since the December talk and some said they had remembered to give their dogs water and some said they all said they had not thrown stones.

At the end the children received pens, bowls (for water), sweets and clothes for their great efforts. They went off home very happy and we continued with our work by walking around the nearly roads to treat the local animals. Approximately 40 dogs were wormed, given flea treatment, given flea soap, vitamin injections, collars and leads/chains and lined up for neuter/spay operations.
