Little black pup from Christmas trip - happy ending - by Nicky
One morning Liz, Gamini and myself went out on the usual rounds around Negombo. We went to see a little black dog who Liz had found at Christmas as a sick, mangy puppy who she did not think would make it. When we got there, the owners said that one of the family members was ill and they were moving house soon so they did not want the dog anymore and could we re-home her. We said we would but could they give us a few days to sort out a new home. We took her to the clinic to blood test her then went to return her home where the family said they did not want her back now at all and we would have to keep her. Gamini thought his friends may like to give her a home as they wanted a black dog but they said she was too big, even though she was a very little dog, any smaller and she would have still been a pup! We took her to Gamini’s emergency kennel and left her there a couple of days to decide where she could go. She settled in at Gamini’s and he said he would like to keep her there and name her Nicola, after me.
(By the end of the trip, little Nicky had turned a corner and was happy and full of life. She was spayed and sponsered to stay with Gamini on a permanent basis)
