The young dog pictured above (later named Mia) was found by a roadside. A nice couple called our vet Rohan to report the dog, they had apparently been feeding her for two weeks. She had obviously suffered greatly for two weeks with such an injury, after being knocked down on the road. She was very scared but let us pick her up and take her to the clinic where she was given food, water, painkillers and antibiotics. Jos, who already has two of HAAAW's three legged dogs agreed to take her in, so she was sent to the veterinary faculty in Kandy to have the leg amputated and then after went to live with Jos.
These pups were all found in the graveyard, a popular place for people to dump unwanted puppies and kittens. They were fed daily and looked after by the men working at the graveyard until we were able to take them in. Three were found homes for straight away and Jos kindly kept the other two and tried to build them up. Unfortunately they were just not stong enough and the 2 later died.
These two pups were from a litter of six, they could not stand properly, they were very wobbly and kept falling. They were suffering from worms which had migrated to the brain. They were given treatment to get rid of the worms and both made a full recovery.
